There is a misconception that ammonia hair colors damage the hair structure. In ammonia hair colors the alkaline agent is ammonia.

Ammonia is a gaseous substance, that easily escape from the coloring composition, which causes the smell of ammonia hair dyes, but at the same time, it doesn’t have a long term-effect on the hair and scalp.

Ammonia combined with hydrogen peroxide is the perfect duo for long lasting hair color. Hydrogen peroxide helps to ''clean'' hair from natural pigment, and ammonia helps the dye penetrate into the hair structure.

In ammonia-free hair colors the alkaline agent is ethanolamine.

. The ethanolamine molecule is almost 3.5 times larger than the ammonia molecule, so it doesn't tend to volatilize. The large size of the molecule makes it difficult for the dye to penetrate into the hair structure, which explains the unstable dyeing of hair with ammonia-free dyes.

The concentration of ammonia in hair dyes is only 5-6%, while the concentration of ethanolamine is almost 2 times higher. To get rid of the ethanolamine residues, you need to thoroughly rinse your hairs, otherwise the hair will be look unhealthy and discolored.

The US FDA claims ethanolamine is only safe for short-term use.

Each lightener has a certain negative effect on hair quality, but taking into account the above mentioned fact “Bio-Chem” company produces ,,NICA-blondeure -02 ultra,,  and ,,NICA-blondeure -01 gentle,,  lighteners, which bleach the hair according to the consumer's preference - by 2-3 tones or 4-6 tones.
